The LikeHome Project Meeting took place at EOPPEP in Athens, Greece on the 1st and 2nd of June.

Partners from nine institutions met together to review the project progress, deliverables and expected outputs. The action plan for the next period has been also agreed, in line with the project description.

The overall aim of the LikeHome Project is to foster the inclusion of newly arrived migrants and refugees to the host country education and training system, to the local economy and to the society in general. Its mayor objective is to design and deliver a framework of best practices, based on experiences that have been successfully implemented, for the assessment and recognition of migrants’ prior learning, qualifications and competencies.

During the first six months of the project, the needs and challenges of newly arrived migrants and refugees have been analyzed through questionnaires completed by them, VET staff, government representatives and bodies responsible for migrants prior knowledge certification and local economy representatives. Focus groups have been also celebrated to define targets groups’ needs and challenges  in a more in-depth way.

Selected best practices from Denmark, the Netherlands, the UK, Australia and Canada have been analyzed and compared with the real needs and challenges discussed of partner countries institutions with the aim of identifying the best way to adjust them during the project.

Over the next six months, the selected best practices will be adapted by the consortium and will constitute the LikeHome framework. A set of guidelines will be prepared for the implementation of the LikeHome framework and will contribute towards the development of training materials for the training of  government educators responsible for the migrants’ reception and skills qualification.

Next meeting will be hosted by EfVET in Brussels in December 2017.
