ip4inno was a project funded by the European Commission as a part of the Sixth Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, under PRO INNO actions. It integrated existing policy analysis and benchmarking activities with new incentives for trans-national cooperation, innovation actions and policy learning methods.
The main aim of ip4inno was to increase understanding and usage of intellectual property (IP) by SMEs, with a view to increasing innovation and competitiveness in line with the Lisbon goals. Ip4inno proposes to address this by:
• Building a Consortium using a “pooling approach”, integrating an important number of actors undertaking similar or complementary activities in the field of innovation. Synergies will be exploited to perform common analyses and design enhanced services. Analysing the training needs of the target groups in the field of IP management.
• Providing training for specific target groups in the protection and exploitation of IP and IP management, with the main focus being on patenting.
• Disseminating and facilitating the exchange and dissemination of information and good practices, including training packages within several European countries.
Ip4inno partners pooled their resources to conduct a joint analysis of SMEs' needs in intellectual property protection training. A set of training modules were created, tested and made available to registered intellectual property trainers in Europe.
The project started on 1 January 2007 and ran until the end of 2008
