In both Malaysia and the Philippines natural hazards have caused important damages in the past and this is expected to increase in the future due to the effects of climate change. The DIGIHAZ project seeks to address this fact by supporting the increase of research in Philippines and Malaysian HEIs so they can develop new knowledge and tools to contribute to adapting to and mitigating these challenges. This shall be achieved by developing a high-quality PhD programme focused on digital transformation for natural hazards, as well as by providing researchers with specialised training in this field so they can benefit from the recent improvements on big data analysis, machine learning, Internet of Things, data analytics and computational modelling, and provide training on how to implement those methodologies to natural hazards modelling and disaster risk reduction. This PhD program will provide an added value not only to the universities, but also to the communities and the different stakeholders and agencies involved in emergency management.
