Several challenges hinder the process of internationalization of Higher Education Instituitons (HEI) in low-income countries such as Tanzania: a lack of clear policies and guidelines, the inefficiency of the organizational structure of internationalization, financial, infrastructure, and equipment problems, weaknesses in scientific, skill, and language competences, cultural differences, non-reciprocal relationships and an acute brain drain.
TANZIE aims to strengthen the internationalization efforts of selected Tanzanian HEIs through institutional development to enhance the quality of teaching, research, and international collaboration.
The Specific Objectives are to:
1. Enhance the institutional capacities of TANZIE HEIs to effectively plan, implement, and evaluate internationalization initiatives, including the development of internationalization strategies and offices.
2. Foster the development of intercultural competencies among faculty, staff, and students contributing to a globalized learning environment.
Four Tanzania Higher Education Institutions and the Tanzania Commission for Universities have joined forces with 3 European HEIs and key players in Capacity Building with wide experience in internationalization projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America to implement a work plan that has been built upon the current needs of the Tanzanian Higher Education Sector as a whole.
