The project WIR covers the most important and challenging theme that nowadays the European Union and its members are facing: the migration phenomenon and the welcoming and integration of refugees. A large partnership composed of 7 European countries (SE, IT, LV, DE, ES, AT, FI) with 6 public authorities, 2 associations and one University will implement a project activities plan with 9 events organised with different work methodologies in two year time and with a total of around 320 direct participants among political representatives, civil servants and NGOs and volunteering associations members (target groups).
In order to eliminate stereotypes and misguided narratives about refugees, it is vital to understand the policies and strategy developed by the EU and the welcoming and integrating procedures implemented in the differentmember states. Indeed,
The project objectives are: - To increase knowledge of the EU approach towards refugees and asylum seekers based on the European Agenda for Migration; - To increase knowledge about the processes of welcoming and integrating refugees in the partnering countries; - To exchange best practices at transnational level on focus themes like, education and schooling, getting ready to work, cooperation with civil society and unaccompanied minors;- To transfer or adapt new models for welcoming and integrating refugees; - To create a tool explaining to the citizens the different approaches at work in the different EU countries.
The thematic seminars and the focus groups represent an important moment for acquiring knowledge, information and learning from implemented experiences. These achievements will then be transferred at local level through local discussion groups involving interested stakeholders, associations and citizens to combat stereotypes and misguided narratives. The variety of work methodologies used and link between local and transnational level are added values for the project.
