The University of Alicante coordinated project REACT “Strengthening climate change REsearch And innovation CapactiTies in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam”  recently held its third Training of Trainers module and second Regional Round Table in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The event, which also included a 1-day coordination meeting, took place from July 9th to 13th and was hosted by the Royal University of Agriculture.

Titled “Financing Climate Change Activities in HEIs”, the training module delivered by experts from the OGPI and the University of Alicante, as well as from REACT partner Institut Euro-Méditerranéen en Science du Risque, aimed to

•    Introduce available EU / International funding programmes, including specific sources of funding for Climate Change activities
•    provide a methodology and tools for successful proposal writing and project management
•    For participants to become less dependent on restricted state/university funding, and become more financially able to launch Climate Change research and training activities.

The training was structured along a series of plenary presentations, interspersed with practical exercises done in small groups so the participants could work together on different aspects of drafting a project proposal for a Climate Change initiative.

Following the 3-day training and the coordination meeting, a Regional Round Table was held at the Royal University of Agriculture, bringing together the REACT partners from Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, with academics from Cambodian universities, students and representatives of government and the private sector. The Regional Round Table focused on “Developing a Science ‐ Technology ‐ Innovation framework in Climate Change as booster of the economy” and allowed the participants to hold in-depth discussions on this issue through the lens of education and research in HEIs.
